This course examines the world’s marine resources from the perspectives of usage and management efforts. Economic, legal, and policy issues are considered as well as conservation measures. NYHS students learn the basics of environmental law and policy, and the citizen policy-making process, specifically as they apply to New York City and our international communities.

Course Objectives

Explore and understand the many complex and important ways humans relate to and depend upon coastal and marine environments and resources. 

Think critically about how humans transform and manage the marine space and its components. 

Reflect seriously on issues, challenges, and solutions involving complex problems in marine and coastal management and sustainability.

Develop skills related to the needs of Marine Affairs, Marine Policy and Environmental Policy Industry and Secondary Education.

Explore careers and college sequences in the feilds of Marine Affiars, Marine Policy and Environmental Policy.
